Research Interests
Our research lab focuses on materials development by using the tools and methods available in organic and polymer chemistry.
Our research group at Case Western Reserve University explores the intersection of synthetic polymer chemistry, materials science, and biomedical applications. We design and synthesize novel polymer architectures, with a particular emphasis on hyperbranched, bottlebrush, and thermoresponsive materials. Our work aims to develop advanced polymeric biomaterials for applications in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and soft robotics. Leveraging automation platforms and high-throughput synthesis techniques, we investigate the influence of polymer structure on dynamic properties such as degradation, flow behavior, and stimuli-responsiveness. By understanding how architectural features, molecular composition, and processing conditions impact polymer performance, we aim to create versatile materials that can be tailored for specific therapeutic and technological needs. Our interdisciplinary approach integrates state-of-the-art polymerization techniques, such as ATRP and RAFT polymerization, with innovative design strategies to enable the creation of adaptive, multifunctional materials with controlled degradation and thermal behavior.
